Adanma Mask

An Adanma Mask from Igboland, southeastern Nigeria.

Label by Chioma Vivian Ngonadi:

I had a bad experience with a masquerade on a day that I was on a motorbike in my twenties and I was flogged. With this, I have been very sceptical about masquerades generally. However, there is an exception to that with the Adanma masquerade. Adanma is feminine in every form. It is entertaining, friendly and it appeals to me and made me change my perception about masquerades.
