Tortoiseshell Spoon or Ladle with a coral handle, from Italy

Name of Object: Tortoise Shell Ladle
I thought this tortoise shell attached to a wooden handle was from Africa. The Zimba people ate from tortoise shells during celebrations after winning wars against other tribes to symbolize protection and the impregnability of their tribe. I was surprised to discover that it came from Italy.
